Mythbuntu 7.10 Public Alpha 4

The Mythbuntu team is happy to announce the release of Mythbuntu Alpha 4. This release is also based on Gutsy and should be considered Alpha quality until final release. It is at a very usable stage, and sports bleeding edge packages.

With this release, we consolidate both the standard i386 and AMD64 builds with the latest Ubuntu Gutsy packages.

There has been some really positive feedback from Alpha 3, and some of the bugs raised have been resolved in this release

Changes from Alpha 3:

Control Centre

• Roles:
  • Use the control centre to turn your Mythbuntu box into a full-blown Kubuntu/Ubuntu desktop
  • Switch from primary backend to secondary backend
  • Enable or disable the frontend
• MythTV Configuration:
  • Launch mythtv-setup and modify database connection details
  • Applications and Plugins:
  • Install your favourite plugins, remove those you don't like
  • Install media playback applications (or remove them - you get the idea)
• Proprietary Drivers:
  • Install proprietary drivers (using restricted-manager) and configure them (using driver-specific tools, eg nvidia-settings and AMDCCLE)
  • Remote Control
  • Configure LIRC for your remote and create application- and remote-specific .lircrc files!
• System Services:
  • Enable/disable various services (VNC, SSH, Samba, NFS & MySQL)
• Artwork & Login Behavior
  • Configure automatic login
  • Install/uninstall Mythbuntu artwork

Login as standard user

• There is no separate "mythtv" user anymore
• Do everything with your regular user:
  • choose between MythTV and administrative tasks in the login manager

Refresh ordering of installer pages

Mythstream

• MythTV plugin that plays Internet audio and video streams.

Known Bugs:

• Bug #136483 Mythstream is currently not functioning
• Bug #136482 Changing locale when activating vnc crashes installer
• Bug #136487 Mythstream cannot be unselected during install
• Bug #136493 Hyperlinks in the installer do not work, e.g the Schedules Direct website won't open
• Bug #137167 Installer freezes when click install proprietary driver
