AutoBuilds rebranded to MythTV-Updates and Mythbuntu-Updates!

The Mythbuntu team would like to introduce the MythTV-Updates and Mythbuntu-Updates repositories. This is a rebranding of the previous AutoBuilds repository, so if you were previously using that you have nothing additional to do.

Why are we doing this?

Even though AutoBuilds is built using an identical procedure as the MythTV builds in the Ubuntu repositories, users still had a negative feeling about it. This stems from the vast majority of projects where nightly builds are the bleeding edge of development, often causing breakage and chaos. AutoBuilds actually provided two repositories for each distribution release, bleeding edge trunk builds, and builds from the fixes branch. The difference in these two branches is trunk builds often add new features and is the bleeding edge of MythTV development. The fixes branch is completely different. These builds contain only bug fixes for a particular MythTV version. The Mythbuntu developers always have recommended enabling the fixes repository.

While stability is important users also want to have the latest and greatest released version of MythTV. Previously AutoBuilds only contained two major versions of MythTV for each distribution release. This meant if you wanted to stay up to date on MythTV releases, you also had to do a distribution upgrade. With MythTV-Updates this is no longer necessary. For LTS releases starting with 10.04, the Mythbuntu team will provide updates for each version of MythTV released until the next LTS. This means you can have the latest and greatest MythTV version on 10.04 and not have to do a major distribution upgrade until the next LTS. 

Another reason that users upgrade is to receive bug fixes for Mythbuntu specific software. This is where Mythbuntu-Updates comes in. This repository will provide bug fixes for software written by the Mythbuntu team. This includes but is not limited to Mythbuntu-Log-Grabber, Mythbuntu-Bare, and Mythexport.
